Nov 21. Taxpayers that are to pay the corporate profit tax in 2008 for the previous quarter will be allowed only once to change the tax payment procedure as a result of the financial crisis, Deputy Finance Minister Sergey Shatalov told the media. This amendment was approved at a meeting of the Duma Budget and Tax Committee on Thursday. As Shatalov pointed out, currently taxpayers may pay the corporate profit tax for the previous month, based on the results of the previous quarter or real profit earned during a month. In the process, they can switch from one tax payment procedure to another, but this can be done only before the beginning of a fiscal period, i.e. before the beginning of a calendar year. "Therefore, if at the end of last year a company decided to pay the corporate profit tax for the previous quarter, for the fourth quarter it should make monthly tax payment for the amounts that it earns in its third-quarter records" – the deputy minister said.
